Look 3 Photography Festival This Weekend

This is the 3rd year of LOOK3 and it just keeps getting better and better. Nick Nichols, our founder and co-executive director, has been on assignment for NG in the Redwoods and has done his best from 3,000 miles away and 300 feet off the ground. But to help see our vision come to life we went out and nabbed a guest curator. MaryAnne Golon who left Time magazine last summer after being the Director of Photography for years has prepared for LOOK3 a world class program of gallery exhibits, projections, outdoor shows, and presentations. Our featured “legacy” photographers in 2009 are Sylvia Plachy, Martin Parr, and Gilles Peress. Each of these artists will have one night on the stage at the Paramount Theater to talk about their life and life’s work while we project images on a huge screen behind them. Each of the “legacy” artists will also have a special print gallery exhibition.

There is so much going on this year it’s hard to mention it all here. Our full schedule and list of artists is at our website http://look3.org. But to give a quick overview, Masters Talks 30min presentations include Eugene Richards, Philip Toledano, Yolanda Cuomo Design, George Steinmetz, Callie Shell, Simon Bruty, and David Alan Harvey. Our print exhibits include the Pictures of the Year international, US Premier of World Press Photo 2009, James Nachtwey, Paolo Pellegrin, Tom Mangelsen, Platon, and many more. Our evening projections will showcase new work by photographers including William Albert Allard, Pep Bonet, Yuri Kozyrev,Steve Winter, Amy Stein, Chien-Chi Chang, Stephen Alvarez, and more.

There’s really so much going on. It’s amazing we can pack it all into these few days.
